As usual the Northern Area Contest took place at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington in County Durham. This year, the Band were conducted by Alan Morrison, on the test piece Jazz. Achieving 185 points, the Band were placed 2nd and so qualified for the National Finals to be held at the Royal Albert Hall, London. Since the Band reached the championship section, this was to be their 5th qualification out of six attempts - a truly enviable record. These photographs have only recently (April 2006) come to light.

Julian Batten, talks to one of the Band's latest signings, Zoe Winspear (Front Row), and Liz Grosvenor (2nd Euphonium). For those eagle eyed readers, Zoe is wearing one of the Band's older City of Hull ties.

The first of the now annual area shot of Kathy and Tony. This one just a few weeks after returning from their honeymoon in the West Indies. Jamaica? No she came of her own accord! (Say it out loud if you don't get it).

Typical of Liz, someone else has to get the beer in, and then hold it for her. Posh!!?? Of course not - everyone else is using a straw to drink with ...............aren't they?
