Race Night

6 October 2006

This the third fund raising race night for the Band, followed the pattern set by the previous events, both as a financially successful night for the band, and as a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Not only was the racing a success, but showing on the television was the Hull FC versus Bradford Bulls Rugby League Elimination semi-final.

The tote setting up, and even in a still picture the cornet player appears to move faster than the bass players!

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil, and ........

Winner of the first race - Shed Builder Shaun Davey

Winner of the second race - Fluke John Lawrence

Leave me alone until after the rugby!

Vicki receives the plaudits (and prizes) for the 3rd race on behalf of her aunt.

Sam Kind and his prize for owning the winning horse in race 4. If you can't quite see Sam, it's because he hasn't quite arrived yet!

The tote ready to mug, I mean accept bets for the next race.

And now an action shot of the robbery!

Drinking and betting, no wonder Julia raises an eyebrow!

Winner of race number 5, Tony Newiss, with his appropriately named horse 'Tonal Tragedy'. Remind me again, why do people wear black?

Fandango's owner, trainer, and mucker outer, Pam, celebrates winning race number 6.

Meanwhile back at the rugby, it's getting tense.

Such concentration no-one even notices the camera.

Race organiser Kirsty Fox, visibly relaxing after the supper arrives.

Wave for the camera. Obviously an instruction, not a request.

Mel Kennedy owner of the race 7 winner, Taff's Delight. And from the look on her face, it obviously was.

Pete Arden with his prize for winning owner of race number 8 - Ethel!

The calm before the storm of the last race.

The winning jockey of the final race, any other suggestions on a postcard to ....

Another very successful evening for the Band, and one that was enjoyed immensely by all those present. The rugby was won 19 - 6 by Hull FC, to gain their place in the Super League Grand Final against St Helens.
