Senior Cup - Spring FestivalBlackpool 13th May 2006 |
After the contest and post contest relaxation (see part one) period, the Band headed out to hit the town.

Are those lights above Stewart's head, or is he wearing a pair of rabbits ears?
The local landmark.

Another famous local landmark, that caused a heated debate regarding the proper or improper use of the apostrophe. However, is the apostrophe correct, and the second S incorrect?

Back to out tour of Blackpool. On arrival at the Chinese restaurant, the real food addicts studied the menu. Jim however studied the adjudicators remarks, whilst Rhiannon hoped that she wasn't going to finish up with Chinese spare cornet entries, and egg fried splits.

Well known for his impressions, Danny confused everyone with a piece of toilet paper across his face. It could have been Dominic Cork with the sun block on, but then again, who knows?
Well it's either a walrus, or Danny sticks with famous cricketers and does Merv Hughes!

Not to be outdone, Vicki and Liz try the goofy look!

Dan manfully tries to support both Liz and Fu Manchu before they both slide off their chairs.

Oh no, Liz has slipped the other way now!

No product placement please Shaun.

Of course it's just cola.

Don't look at the camera now Jez - every one else will pinch the food whilst you are distracted!

Performance done, food eaten, glass emptied = a happy bandsman.
I think Rhiannon had heard this story before!

Emma and Steve do their best conductor impressions, whilst in the background Jim passes comment on their performances! Or given our sponsorship, should that be Emma and Steve do their bus conductor impressions?

We know where you're going!

Sam shows off his super shiny ear ring, whilst in the foreground Peter Wilson shows off his black belt in origami!

Satisfied, Peter sits back to admire his handiwork.

It's rude to whisper.

Empty plates, empty glasses, yet Kathy still persuades Tony to smile.

Tony still smiling (just) whilst Shaun wonders about the loose lock of hair on his forehead. Should have used more products!

Very nice sticking technique boys, but it would be even more impressive if you had some food to eat with them!

Dean demonstrates a paradiddeldiddel whilst Jonathan accompanies him on the beer glass in A.

I wouldn't want to suggest that Dean had had a beer, but he seems to have failed to realise that his cymbal had been pinched!

The side view confirms a classic drummers pose.

Then he dropped his sticks.....

Luckily we had one percussionist who could do 'chopsticks' with chopsticks.
Following the meal, we returned back to Barry's bar in the hotel.

Steve and Alistair, the first two 'young men' to be served.

You should have seen the size of my crispy duck pancake!

Note the smiles, definitely a happy Band at play.

Is that a touch of affection, or is Liz about to get a clip around the ear?

Out of shot, the Band's resident (comedian that is), Dixon continues his quick fire demonstration of joke telling.

Meanwhile, at the serious end of the table.

A rare shot of Dave and Kirsty out and about on an evening. Normally one of them pulls babysitting duties, but tonight the parents are doing the honours.

Look at all of those empty glasses. Someone should really get up and go to the bar.
Sunday morning and we headed off back along the M55 eastwards, having had a good time, but knowing that we should have done better.
Following on from the article mentioned on page one of our Blackpool adventure, the 4barsrest website published a retrospective view of the Senior Cup Competition on their website. Once again they have given a very positive view of the band's performance. To visit this, please click here, and scroll down to almost the bottom of the page. Given the number of the Band that returned from Blackpool with a flu like virus, their comment of "a snorter" of a performance was slightly prophetic!

Danny realises that he can't stand the pace like he used to..... or at least that's what Liz keeps telling him.
