Solo Trombone - Mark Unsworth

Mark Unsworth was born in Kingston Upon Hull, taking up the trombone at the age of eleven, progressing through the local authority bands and orchestras before joining the British Army. As Principal Trombone in the regimental band of The Kings Own Royal Border Regiment, Mark visited many countries, including Canada, Cyprus, Germany and The Falkland Islands, as well as completing a one-year course at The Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall. A highlight of this year was taking part in the Royal Variety Performance at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London. Following his time in the Army, Mark completed a three-year course at Salford University, studying trombone with Neville Roberts and Andrew Berryman, conducting with Dr. Roy Newsome and Dr. David King, and arranging with Goff Richards. On completion of a one-year teacher-training course at The University of Durham, Mark taught Physical Education for ten years. Returning to Hull in 1999, Mark now works as an administrator. During the years since leaving university, Mark has played for and recorded with several of the countries top bands including Kennedy's Swinton Concert, Ever Ready, and since September 2001 The East Yorkshire Motor Services Band. As well as playing with this Band, Mark is an experienced big band trombonist doing several stints with the Hull based Frank Cleveland Orchestra, as well as being a member of the Salford University Big Band, which won the 1988 BBC Big Band of the Year award.

In November 2008, Mark won the 'Best Instrumentalist' prize in the final of the Kippax Knockout Entertainment Contest.

2nd Trombone - Jez Kearney

Jez was born on the Isle of Man in 1971, and quickly followed his fathers footsteps into the local brass band - Onchan Silver - on trombone at the tender age of four. Aged eight, when he had grown sufficiently that his arms could reach sixth position, Jez played his first solo, The Acrobat by John Greenwood, more popularly known as the theme music to the BBC children's programme 'Johnny Briggs'. During the next twelve years Jez performed in a variety of musical styles including orchestra, dance band, pit orchestra, wind band, as well as moving on to the Douglas Town Band.

Jez then decided to take his musical career further, so leaving the sunny Isle of Man behind, applied to join the Army as a musician. Journeying to England, Jez had a successful audition for the Band of H. M. Irish Guards, based at Chelsea Barracks, in London. After completing  a years study at The Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, Jez enjoyed many years of performing and touring most of Europe with 'The Micks', which included several appearances at the Queens Birthday Parade, on Horse Guards, Parade, and the changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Leaving the Army in 2003 to pursue other interests, Jez joined the East Yorkshire Motor Services Brass Band in September 2004, after moving to Lincolnshire to be closer to his family. After several years working in and around Lincolnshire, Jez rejoined Her Majesties Armed Forces, this time as a musician with the Royal Air Force.
